The Loft: A Unique Residential Apartment Design

Creating a Home Inspired by CRAFTHOLIC Cafe

One of the key features that sets The Loft apart is its innovative space planning. Despite the limitations of the 52 square meter apartment, the designers decided to hack the wall between the two bedrooms and plan the space vertically instead of horizontally. This allowed them to make use of the high ceiling and create a bedroom up on the loft, while still providing enough space for the homeowner to socialize with family and friends.

Privacy was also a priority in the design. The living and sleeping areas are divided by a glass panel, ensuring that sound from the television won't disturb those who are sleeping. Additionally, the loft is cantilevered with a hollow section, providing support for the sleeping area without the need for visible columns that would clutter the space.

Despite the compact size, The Loft is designed to meet all the essential daily needs of the homeowner. The design includes a leisure area, wardrobe, and a coffee corner, all within a glance. By hacking 90 percent of the wall, the space feels wider and airy, creating a sense of openness and freedom.

The Loft was completed in 2019 in Singapore, and it showcases the creativity and technical expertise of the design team, including ZhiQi Lee and Frederick Chow Chang Wai. The project was a challenge due to the limited space, but the designers were able to overcome this obstacle and create a functional and stylish living space.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Loft stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
